Summary
We are embarking on the journey of future hybrid-electric regional aircraft (HER) with HERFUSE, a pioneering project focused on revolutionising regional aircraft propulsion systems. The main objective of HERFUSE is to create
innovative airframe and empennage designs optimised for the next generation of hybrid-electric regional aircraft. The project addresses design, materials, components, manufacturing and assembly challenges, integrating hybrid-electric propulsion features and complementary systems to improve weight, durability, aerodynamics and operations. HERFUSE’s technical solutions will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a more sustainable future for our planet. CATEC’s activities in HERFUSE are mainly related to the development of non-destructive inspection technologies, foreseen for the future
evaluation of composite joints.
