GAIA aims to implement a series of developments to address the problems posed by forest fires. Three main areas of action have been planned: prevention, support for firefighting operations, and reforestation.
The project has a total budget of €2,357,685.48 from AEI, distributed over the 2023-2026 periods.
The main objective of GAIA is to increase considerably the knowledge of the situation of forest areas. To do so, it will make use of embedded systems in autonomous platforms, intelligent processing, analysis and interpretation of data streams and even research in advanced visualization technologies, employing tools based on AI, 5G communications or visual sensors such as IR or LIDAR.
The GAIA project consortium is led by GTD, with FECSA, CIC Consulting Informático, Gogoa Mobility Robots, Zenon and TST. Research organizations include TEKNIKER, CATEC, the University of Cantabria and the King Juan Carlos University.
