A-MELIUS Additive Manufacturing of functional and Effective LIght Use-caseS
The project aims globally (between the Spanish and German partners) to increase the functionality of additively manufactured parts made from original AM materials by improving surface properties through laser treatment. The project will address the following objectives for each country:
- Optimization of functional elements to enable significant weight reduction in aerospace applications.
- Improvement of AM alloys such as Ti64 and Scalmalloy® by reducing surface roughness on target components using laser polishing.
- Structuring and improving the functionality of AM-manufactured surfaces in one-shoot, performing laser modification in a controlled inert gas environment. This activity will be performed on both Ti64 and Scalmalloy® materials.
- Replacing “wet” chemical processes such as AM anodization of 3D elements in Scalmalloy®, by laser modification in a controlled inert gas environment.

Financier
An incentive has been received from the Innovation and Development Agency of Andalusia IDEA, of the Regional Government of Andalusia, for an amount of €342,372.18, 80% co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund, ERDF, for the implementation of the project “Additive Manufacturing of Functional and Effective Light Use-caseS” (A MELIUS) with the aim of promoting technological development, innovation and quality research.
