Topology Optimization

Topology Optimization is a technique included in the structural elements analysis field. It is based on the mechanical analysis of components or structures. Its main aim is the weight reduction of structural parts, without loss of its mechanical functionalities. In contrast to other types of optimization, topology optimization offers a new concept of structural design focused on those applications where the component weight is critical (i.e. aerospace industry).

Thanks to the new computational methods, it is possible to raise the optimization to a more complex analysis level. Static, dynamic, plastic regime behaviour, modal or impact analyses, among others calculations, can be considered within the optimization process.

The development of this methodology has a wide field of application for additive manufacturing (AM) technologies (like Selective Laser Melting) due to their possibilities in terms of design (very complex geometries).
